About our wearable art

Yolonda Ross draws inspiration from Aboriginal Dot Art to create works that explore cultural narratives and questions our existence. Interspersed throughout her compositions are the reflection of spirituality, life’s cycle and coexistence.

Ross’s process is a journey. Beginning of Time, Again and Clear Thoughts, Serene Path, are just two examples of how her use of symbols; hands, dark painted skies, and many many dots, to illustrate her exploration of interconnectedness. Many of her paintings also include the Aboriginal symbol for Woman, as well as circles, to represent unity and energy.”

Her paintings have even evolved into highly coveted tote bags. “Above all else, I believe that women are the beginning of life and the keepers of life,” notes Ross.

These paintings are part of The Journey series. Friend, Brother, and Moms represent people that had moved onto the next, in the cycle of life. During this time I carried small canvases and oil markers everywhere I went, not to miss a moment, if I need to stop and be still. These paintings start with an acrylic base, creating atmosphere. The placing of the dots internally created a calming effect over me, and visually an expansive world to explore. The accent colors were their favorites. The Aboriginal symbols for WOMAN, which represents life to me, is adorned on each painting.
